Grid Translator Pro 3.5 for Planet: See what's new in this release.
What Grid Translator Pro Does?
Grid Translator Pro (GTP) for Planet is a Mentum Planet add-on enabling Planet users to handle a wide range of raster and imaging formats within Planet.
GTP core functionality is raster data translation. GTP does:
-
- Import more than90 raster formats to Planet grid format.
- Export Planet grids to standard raster formats.
Trial / Purchase
Download GTP for Planet. A 10 days fully functioning trial is available for free. The permanent version can be directly purchased through the same web page.
Why Do I Need GTP?
GTP for Planet opens all the functionalities of Planet to more than 90 raster formats including the formats of the major GIS and Imaging industry products: ArcGIS (ArcInfo), PCI, Erdas, Idrisi and Surfer.
GTP for Planet is built with Planet users in mind to allow them leverage their investment in Planet product and take advantage of the increasingly available and free data over the Internet. Examples of such data are: SRTM data (world wide), GTOPO30 (world wide) and SDTS (USA).
Whether you have a raster dataset produced by ArcInfo, Idrisi, PCI, Erdas, Geosoft or ENVI, a satellite image (SPOT, Radar, NOAA, NITF), a nautical chart (BSB), a bitmap image (GIF, Bitmap, Jpeg, PixMap), or a DEM (SRTM, SDTS, USGS DEM, GTOPO30, DTED); GTP for Planet will bring these data to Planet native format with few clicks.
In addition of importing raster datasets, GTP for Planet can export Planet grids into 5 different standard GIS formats enabling Planet grids to be used by external applications.
Supported Formats:
Using an original design GTP for Planet import and/or export Planet grids using an automated and generic process. The conversion process is batch oriented allowing users to create and/or export Planet grids from/to a wide range of data formats using a single and unified user interface.

Examples of Planet grids created using GTP for Planet:
What's new in GTP 3.5 ?
• GTP 3.5 is now available as a native 64 Bits Application. We still offer our 32 Bits application as well. You have the choice to take advantage of large memory available to 64 Bits applications or continue using our 32 Bits application as well.
• GTP 3.5 (64 Bits) can still be run as tool within Planet (32 Bits).
• Added support to export Planet grids (.grd and .grc) to GeoPdf format. This enable easier publishing and sharing of Planet grids outside Planet. A GeoPdf is simply a pdf file plus extra geoinformation. GeoPdf files can be opened in most Windows OS by simply double clicking on them.
• New functionality is added to support creating 'crash' files called Minidump in case 'Grid Translator Pro' encountered an issue and stopped responding or crashed.
• Added support for 5 new formats that can be imported into Planet:
- LandCover (.lcv) format
- Azavea Raster Grid format
- CTable2 datum grid shift
- IRIS format
- OziExplorer Map files
• Enhanced current support of multiple formats:
- Added support for ECW SDK 5 and enhanced performance on large datasets.
- Added support for huge files (>2GB) for GEOS2 datasets.
- Refreshed Internal libtiff and libgeotiff libraries that support Tiff files handling.
- Multiple enhancements to many of the currently supported formats.
• Fixed an issue that was causing some .zip, .gzip and .tar file to not be handled properly.
